Chill-0-Ween Mountain Chili Cook-Off and Salsa Challenge
October 14, 2017 (Saturday)
So you think your chili is the best? Come up to the highest mountain in Alabama and prove it! Compete with other great cooks for bragging rights. Tasting starts at 11:00 am and ends at 1:00 pm CDT (Awards at 1:30 pm)
Chili Cook-off and Salsa Challenge located in the grand ballroom of the Cheaha State Park Historic Bald Rock Lodge.
Set up begins at 9:00 am and exhibits should be ready for inspection by 10:30 am CDT
Award Categories:
Three “Best Chili on Cheaha” Awards (First, Second, and Third Place Plaques – Official Cheaha Judges) One “People’s Choice of Best Chili on Cheaha” Award (Guest Voters) Three “Best Salsa on Cheaha” Awards (First, Second, and Third Place Plaques- Official Cheaha Judges) One “People’s Choice of Best Salsa on Cheaha” Award (Guest Voters) One Best Booth Presentation: Theme of YOUR choice…make it fun!
No fee to enter contest, but please let us know if your plans change and you won’t be participating.
Please make your entry at home and bring it ready to heat and serve. We have refrigerators if you need to keep something cool. But we will NOT be heating anything in the lodge kitchen.
One table and two chairs will be provided per entry (for the first 20 entries). Bring your own table cloth, signs, give-a-ways, and decorations. Bring your own ladles, chips, crackers, condiments and accessories. Tasting cups will be provided for by Cheaha State Park.
Chill-O-Ween Haunted Hills & Hollows: An Appalachian Folk Fest Mountain Chili Competition, Salsa Challenge, folk music, storytelling, ghost hikes, games, crafts, food, and more!
Festival Location: Historic Bald Rock Lodge & Bald Rock Accessible Trail Time: Chili Competition 11:00 am – 1:00 pm CDT; Other activities from 1:30 pm – 7:00 pm CDT
Fee: $5 per person park entrance fee at the gate; no fee to enter the chili/salsa competition (This fee supports your park and programs for our community. Thank you for supporting Alabama State Parks Amendment 2 last fall!)
