D-Day 2015: Honor and Remember

Date: June 5, 2015 Time: 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Event Description Help us to honor the “greatest generation” at Berman Museum’s second annual D-Day remembrance event, on Friday, June 5.  Beginning at 9:30am, guests will share in a light breakfast of fruit and Danish with family, friends, and the honored WWII veterans in attendance. The remembrance event will begin outside, in the Museum’s front parking lot.  Join us in recognizing all those who gave their lives during WWII, and in honoring the veterans and retired/active military personnel in attendance. Following the recognition, the HeartNotes will perform a live musical set, “entertaining the troops” with a USO style salute to WWII.  To make the program more comfortable for our honored guests (since early June can be quite warm), seating at this year’s D-Day remembrance event will be shaded underneath a large tent. Electric fans will be in place, to help keep everyone cool, and souvenir hand-fans and bottled water will be distributed, as well. This event is free to the public, suitable for all ages. It’s a wonderful way to remember and to thank those members of the greatest generation, men and women who sacrificed so much for our freedom. If you know a WWII veteran who plans to attend, we ask that you let us know ahead of time, so that we may reserve a special seat for the veteran and their family members. Please let us know if the veteran requires any special consideration, such as space for a wheelchair. To make a reservation for a WWII veteran, call 256-237-6261.  All other seating is first-come, first-seated.

D-Day 2015: Honor and Remember attendees  will also have the chance to tour the Berman Museum galleries, and to view Infamy: December 7, 1941, a special exhibition from the WWII Museum in New Orleans. Infamy, a moving and powerful exhibit of period photos, recounts the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and forms the basis of Berman Museum’s newest permanent addition to the WWI and WWII Hall. Visitors to the Museum’s second floor galleries will travel through time alongside the soldiers and sailors of the allied forces, exploring the collected photos, personal items and military paraphernalia of the time.
