Dec 1    Exhibit Opening - Polished Portraits: The Bronzes of Germaine Berman
Berman Museum is proud to announce our next temporary exhibition, Polished Portraits: The Bronzes of Germaine Berman. The public opening is set for Friday, December 1 at 10:00 AM and family fun activities will take place Saturday, December 2 from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM. While serving in WWII, Germaine Berman watched helplessly as Allied and Axis governments destroyed valuable artworks, including bronze sculpture. After the war, Germaine was determined to preserve as many European bronzes as possible. Polished Portraits exhibits thirty-two pieces of Germaine’s personal bronze sculpture collection, with subjects ranging from Animalia to deities. In this gallery, visitors will learn the history of how bronze sculptures are made and view pieces from the greats, such as Rodin and Renoir. At the center of the exhibit is Germaine’s story, illustrating how her love for art and her determination to preserve it has given Anniston and the art world at large a lasting legacy. Please note: Parental Guidance Suggested. This exhibit contains examples of the nude form.

Dec 16    Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit
Alabama native Jason Isbell is both a product of his Northern Alabama roots and an example of how musical influences can help an artist evolve and mature. Born in Greenhill, Alabama, Isbell is undeniably inspired by the soul-tinged rock, country, and blues produced in neighboring Muscle Shoals. His sound continues to evolve but is equal parts loud and thoughtful, Southern and worldly. As a lyricist, Jason is willing to tell the difficult stories, whether raw, introspective, messy, or poetic. As an artist, he reveals his own vulnerabilities – his successes and failures – that listeners might find kinship, or perspective. The Wall Street Journal writes, "A composer of splendidly crafted songs, he performs with anintensity that connects the listener to the deep and genuine emotions that inspire his work."

His past albums include Sirens of the Ditch, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Here We Rest, Live from Alabama and Southeastern. His most recent release is The Nashville Sound. The Nashville Sound is the follow up to 2015’s critically acclaimed Something More Than Free, which won two Grammy Awards (Best Americana Album & Best American Roots Song, “24 Frames”) and two Americana Music Association Awards (Album of the Year & Song of The Year, “24 Frames”).

If Southeastern (2013) was the Getting Sober record (Jason has been searingly honest in both songs and interviews about the time he spent in rehab), and Something More Than Free (2015) was the New Clarity record, maybe this one, The Nashville Sound, is the Way Forward.
