May 5    The Ugly Duckling PRESENTED BY LIGHTWIRE THEATRE
In an age when technology seems to provide many distractions, Lightwire Theater, made famous on America’s Got Talent, brings a classic tale to the modern stage. This is an unforgettable theatrical experience. Witness the magic of full-body puppetry and electroluminescent artistry that will astound and captivate the entire family.

Show Synopsis:
Of the five eggs in Mother Duck’s nest, one is the largest and last to hatch. Bigger and paler than the others, this last hatchling is treated as an outsider by Mother Duck and her ducklings. He may be the best swimmer of the brood, but this alone is not enough to ensure his acceptance. Knowing only rejection, this Ugly Duckling goes out into the wild alone. Reflecting upon his plight under the glow of a remote willow tree, he sees a wily cat creeping in the direction of Mother Duck’s nest. The Ugly Duckling follows and watches as one lagging duckling is captured and taken back to the cat’s lair. In true heroic fashion, this Ugly Duckling succeeds in vanquishing the cat and rescuing the captured duckling. Celebrated by Mother Duck and her ducklings for his uniqueness, all realize that he may have been an ugly duckling, but he has grown into a beautiful and powerful swan.

"I want to prepare you to put your dream to the test so that you can actually achieve it. How? I believe that if you know the right questions to ask yourself, and if you can answer these questions in an affirmative way, you will have an excellent chance of being able to achieve your dreams. May 12    RMC Foundation Garden Jubilee
Martha Vandervoort was a gardener of life, planting seeds of hope and love everywhere she went--with each life she touched.

It is only fitting that a scholarship be established in her honor to continue sowing seeds of hope for our future. Martha inspired people to trust God, put others before themselves and treat all people equally. She was a champion for our community and knew the needs of those most at risk.

With this scholarship opportunity, Martha’s memory will be honored and continue her mission so that each recipient can be the best person God created them to be.

At the 2017 RMC Foundation Garden Jubilee there will be dinner, dancing, and a scholarship awarded to a Calhoun County senior.

"I want to prepare you to put your dream to the test so that you can actually achieve it. How? I believe that if you know the right questions to ask yourself, and if you can answer these questions in an affirmative way, you will have an excellent chance of being able to achieve your dreams. The more questions you can answer positively, the greater the likelihood of success! That’s the reason I wrote this course."

May 18    Third Thursday in the Gardens
Jan Emming is the owner and creator of Desert Sense Nursery at Destination: Forever Ranch and Gardens near the small town of Yucca, Arizona. He moved to this 40-acre parcel in 1999 to pursue the creation of a large garden and horticultural collection of cacti, succulents, and xeric desert plants. Jan (pronounced Yahn) will talk about living off the grid in the beautiful Mohave Desert near the base of the Hualapai Mountains in northwestern Arizona. Jan’s desert home is made from papercrete, a mixture of paper fiber and concrete that gives the look and feel of adobe. If you are interested in sustainable living, the natural world of American deserts or the wonders of nature viewed through the camera of a photographer; this program will be of great interest to you.
