Jan 1    First Day Hike
Start your new year off enjoying the beauty of an Alabama State Park. On the First Day Hike, we will be hiking from the motel to the Observation Tower, Alabama's highest point(1 mile total). This is an interpretative hike that will be led by Mandy Pearson, Cheaha State Park Naturalist. She will teach about plants, animals, native Americans, the Civilian Conservation Corp, ecosystems, Leave No Trace and much more. Join us New Year's Day on the new 1 mile Leave No Trace Bigfoot Challenge Trail as we hike to the highest point in Alabama.

Course Description: Distance Options 15K or 8K on the trails at Coldwater Mountain Upper Trailhead. Roughly 40 miles from Birmingham, Alabama, near the towns of Anniston and Oxford, Coldwater Mountain serves up a growing network of trails built specifically for mountain biking but offers recreation of all sorts, including trail running. The 4,000-acre land tract was bought in the late 1990s by Alabama’s Forever Wild organization—a land preservation program—and is managed by the state.

Awards: Medals and prizes will be awarded to our overall top 3 Male and Female finishers for each race along with top Male and Female Masters 40-49 and Grand Masters 50 +. We will also be handing out medals to our top 3 Male and Female finishers in each age group (14&U, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70&U). You're invited to take advantage for the opportunity to practice shooting at the Marksmanship center air gun ranges. 80 point, 10 meter air gun ranges are fully equipped with electronic targets. Sporter class air rifles are available as loaners at the range for no cost. National Match Air Rifles are available to rent for $5. Cost for Adults: $5, Juniors: $2 (high school and younger)

Presented as part of the NobleBank & Trust Broadway Series with support from BR Williams and NobleBank & Trust.

The Sound of Music is most notably the final collaboration of iconic Broadway composer/lyricist duo Rodgers and Hammerstein. The production opened on Broadway in 1959 and won five Tony Awards. The 1965 Oscar-winning film starring Julie Andrews remains one of the most successful musical films of all time. This tour pays homage to the original musical production and film including the standards “Climb Every Mountain,” “Do-Re-Mi,” and “The Sound of Music.”
