This is a drop-in guided tour offered twice a month. These strolls will last one hour. Some strolls will cover the entire museum and others will focus on an individual gallery. May 10    The Sacred Art of Buddhism: Exhibit Opening
Introducing the Berman Museum's next temporary exhibit - "The Sacred Art of Buddhism". This new exhibit illustrates the history and art of Buddhism by presenting artifacts from across the Asiatic world. Buddhism is heavily influenced by ancient eastern cultural ideals and has cultivated an environment of art and creativity. Guests will explore how color and symbolism are interwoven into Buddhist teachings as represented through our beautiful and ornate artifacts. "The Sacred Art of Buddhism" opens to the public on Friday, May 10 and will remain open until November, 2019.

Whether it’s your teacher, a police officer, a character from your favorite book, your part-time fighter-pilot-full-time mom, a hero from the past, or a person in a cape, vaulting from building-to-building and protecting the good citizens of Everytown, we all have a role model that we look up to, a hero there to help us be better people, to put-on our own cape, and try to make the world a little better. Please join the Berman Museum in celebrating those that “put on the cape” with a special Heroes Day program on May 11. Heroes Day entails a special craft, snacks, and learning about some of our education staff’s own heroes from history. May 17 - May 19    U.S. Canine Biathlon
Held at VWK9’s world-class 320-acre canine training facility in Anniston, Alabama, The U.S. Canine Biathlon® was founded by our Race Director – Paul Hammond (the Mad Brit) not only for those who love the challenge of obstacle racing but their canine companions. This 4+ mile event features more than 40+ purpose-built obstacles over varied terrain including forest, sand, and water. The U.S. Canine Biathlon® is open to all types of Handler-Canine teams including Civilian pets, Search & Rescue, Military working dogs, or Police Dog teams. In addition, the race is open to challengers and thrill seekers of all ages and experience levels. Scores will be determined not only by course time but also criteria based on the age of both the runner and the canine partner. The U.S. Canine Biathlon® is also open to individual entries who wish to complete without a canine partner or those canine teams who wish to take on the course as a group. Serious competitors and serious group competitors will race on Saturday, May 18, 2019 with an awards ceremony starting around 6:30 PM CST in the main pavilion area. Biathlon Racing will continue on Sunday, May 19, 2019 for competitors and groups that want to take on the challenge but are in it for the fun of it. Sunday Funday will include all of the same amenities as the Saturday racing (vendors, food trucks, beer truck, children’s bouncy house), and each racer will be timed, but their times will not be considered for top prizes.

Though many critters be small, they be mighty! The world is very large for some animals but they don’t allow that to keep them down. May 19    27th Annual Cheaha Challenge
The Cheaha Challenge Gran Fondo Century & ULTRA ride upholds the tradition of excellence established in 1992, with the vision, to create a challenging route over the highest point in Alabama - Mount Cheaha - and then back again, continues to fulfill the event's tagline promise to be "the toughest ride in the South."

The rides start and finish on the sweeping campus of Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama, where both the University and City have proven to be gracious hosts for the events.

Each rider receives a stuffed goody bag with all sorts of cycling and fitness-related items. All finishers receive finisher gifts, and those completing the ULTRA receive a unique Finisher Shirt, a bragging rights shirts only confirmed finishers are allowed to wear.

Join us in celebrating the opeing of East-Central Alabama's latest advancement in crime reduction, the East-Metro Crime Center (EMACC). Operated by the Oxford Police Department, the EMACC will now begin to support law enforcement operations within our region. It would be an honor to have you present during the opening ceremony of this new and innovative facility.
