It’s time to celebrate those slinky, slimy, scaly friends again at HerpFest. Whether you love them or hate them, you have to be here! Join us Saturday, June 1 as we welcome back our reptilian and amphibian critters. Live animals will be on display throughout the Anniston Museum of Natural History from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM courtesy of the Alabama Herpetological Society, Jacksonville State University Herp LAB, Alabama 4H Science School, Cheaha State Park, JSU Field Schools, Noccalula Falls, and Anniston Museum! Throughout the day, enjoy a kids corner with family-friendly crafts and interactives, visit the food vendor onsite for a delicious lunch, and claim your seat in a series of reptile and amphibian themed presentations. This event is intended for people of all ages to learn about snakes, turtles, frogs, and more! HerpFest is free with paid admission; AMAG members are free. Come join the Berman Museum for a morning filled with games and puzzles! Follow the scavenger hunt to find each puzzle piece and discover the hidden picture it creates. I Spy! is recommended for children ages 5-10 years old but all are welcome to this exciting story and craft time. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Have you always wanted to have a guide to share information and knowledge of the Berman Museum’s amazing collection, but were not able to organize a group for a group tour? Here is your opportunity to enjoy a guided tour with Educational Interpreters and learn more about the amazing historical artifacts and art that are displayed at the museum. This is a drop-in guided tour offered twice a month. These strolls will last one hour. Some strolls will cover the entire museum and others will focus on an individual gallery. This program starts promptly at 2:00 PM and begins in the lobby. Strolls are included in museum admission; AMAG members are free.

Jun 6    D-Day Salute
On June 6, the Berman Museum will honor history and veterans with our annual D-Day salute. The 75th anniversary observance will feature area veterans from World War II and other conflicts, military speakers, live 40s-era entertainment, and patriotic music. It will be a day of celebration and reflection as we remember those who served and all they accomplished. The event will recognize the service of all veterans and offer opportunities to talk with them and listen to their stories. Bring the children or grandchildren. Let them hear from those who served. A complimentary lunch of hotdogs, chips, and a drink will be provided to all event attendees. Lunch will be prepared by Leslie E. Amidon, MSgt. (Ret.) USAF and Sandra J. Amidon, former Sgt. USAF. If you are a WWII veteran or know one that would like to attend this event, please call 256-237-6261 to reserve a seat for veterans and friends/family seating. This event will be outdoors under a tent with limited indoor seating for lunch. Indoor lunch seating can be reserved by calling the Berman Museum or emailing gmorey@annistonmuseum.org by June 4. Program, lunch, and museum admission are complimentary on June 6.

The 5k run will begin and end at the Beck Field House. Cash prizes will be awarded to the Top 3 overall male and female participants. First place is $100, second is $50 and third is $25.  The best male and female Swoop sprinter will each receive a $25 cash prize. Medals awarded to Top 3 in each age group (excluding the overall winners). Age groupings are by 5-year increments: 0-10, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70 and older. The awards ceremony will begin immediately after the results are in.

Jun 8    Gallery Chats: Operation Overlord
Join the Berman Museum for a special Gallery Chat discussion on Operation Overlord, the allied invasion of Normandy in World War II. This year is the 75th anniversary of the largest amphibious landing of military personnel in history. Visitors will look back on the events of June 1944 as told through the lens of the Berman Museum’s collection of artifacts from this time period. This program will take place in the World War II gallery on the 2nd floor of the museum. This program is included in museum admission; AMAG members are free.

Jun 23 - Jun 28    Gamecock Arts Summer Program (GASP)
The School of Arts and Humanities at Jacksonville State University would like to invite you to join us for GASP. The Gamecock Arts Summer Program (GASP) is an opportunity for high school students aged 13-18 to experience college level art and performance activities. This year we are offering a Musical Theatre Intensive and a Visual Arts Camp. This program is geared towards talented students that are serious about furthering their Arts and Humanities education. The classes and workshops will be taught by the faculty of the drama, music, and visual arts departments. In addition to participating in workshops, performances, and art shows students will also have recreation time on campus, as well as staying in the dorms and dining at the Jack Hopper Dining Hall.
 
There are residential and non- residential options for both the Musical Theatre Intensive and the Visual Arts Camp. The camps will be held separately, but the recreation time will allow students to come together and collaborate.
 
GASP will be help at Jacksonville State University June 23rd- June 28th, 2019.

McClellan Bike Trails - Opening 
Wednesday, June 26, 2019 5:30 p.m. 
Join the McClellan Development Authority as we celebrate and open the first specifically designed NICA mountain bike race course in the state of Alabama. Mountain bikers from Cheaha, Donoho and Jacksonville teams will be the first to try out the trail. After they ride the trails then it will be open to the public to enjoy. Celebration Open to the Public. After the celebration the trails will be open Monday - Sunday from Dawn until Dusk.

The Alabama Interscholastic Cycling League is an official project league of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). This nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization is working with league directors, coaches and schools across the country to develop mountain biking as an interscholastic club sport for high school and middle school students in each state.
