The Oxford City Council Tuesday approved a $2.2 million downtown renovation project which could be completed by next summer.

The Anniston Star is reporting that city officials tapped Hale Building Company of Anniston for the project, which is designed by Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood. It includes new sidewalks with decorative brick designs and matching crosswalks, street resurfacing and decorative lighting along Main and Choccolocco Streets.

The work will not begin until after October's Oxfordfest.

Oxford was picked as one of the cities for the Main Street Alabama downtown revitalization initiative in 2014.
